Mural Description Painted during the Belltown Mural Festival 2026.

Since Derek’s dinosaurs on the walls above have such strong land and air connections, and since this mural was sponsored by Norwegian Cruise Line (more on that below), Shogo wanted to emphasize water.

Compositionally, you’ll notice that the whale of Shogo’s Luna painting ascends to almost follow a line that is continued by Derek’s Pteradons up to the sky.

And the color palette is deliberately chosen to be a compliment to Derek’s color palette, which Derek started in 2025. Shogo responded to his palette with a water color theme, but also direct compliment to the deep pinks that Derek worked with in the sky.

Rather than a strict “doodle grid” for upscaling his designs, Ota often uses painter’s tape.

The mural’s close proximity to where Norwegian Cruise Line docks at Pier 66 means this mural will be one of the first and last things many Alaskan-bound passengers see when visit Seattle.

This mural was sponsored by Norwegian Cruise Lines. But Belltown Murals Festival does not do typical corporate sponsorships where the company dictates content and puts a logo on the art: Shogo had complete freedom to create whatever he wanted.

Nonetheless, he did incorporate a couple of nods to NCL:

The moon in the mural is a reference to the Norwegian ship “Luna”.
The “Norwegian Bliss” text was painted with one of captains of a ship.

This engaged corporate sponsorship as a collaboration, not just a logo.
