Mural Description Painted during the Belltown Mural Festival 2026.

This is a beautiful collaboration between artist, building tenant, and creative aesthetic and gesture.

The mural features a face, a celestial gesture, a hummingbird and a cherry blossom branch coming out of a window. The color palette with its deep teals and deep pinks are a complementary color palette.

The visions of hope and positivity that come from those cherry blossoms, hummingbirds and celestial gestures are about the neighborhood’s desire to ascend into a better future for self.

The image of the character has a blurred aesthetic and this was something that was a direct relationship between the artist, the mural image, and the tenant, Sound Behavioral Health:

Sound Behavioral Health provides mental health services to local community members and/or patients in the Seattle area.

And the artist is also very forward and outgoing with his own mental health work and journey and wanted to represent that on the wall.

The blurred image of the central character, symbolizes what it can sometimes feel like going through the everyday act of living for someone who struggles with certain mental health issues.

The tension between what I’m supposed to feel and what I’m actually feeling is very clearly represented on this wall.

An additional underlying theme is aspects of the artist’s journey as a Mexican American artist and the relationship between his ethnic home and his current home, challenged by local politics.

Artist Statement
“I think the difference between murals and studio work and what makes it worth it is the fact that you can’t store it somewhere. It’s up against the elements – someone can burn it, someone can spray paint all over it, vandalize it. I think that’s what’s so beautiful about it honestly – it might not be here forever, kind of like people.”
