This work was created in partnership with Seattle Glassblowing Studio and depicts a Black man in the act of blowing glass — a vibrant celebration of craft, skill, and artistry.
Curry, a self-taught Seattle native known for his vibrant realism and deep emotional storytelling, designed the piece to do more than decorate a wall. His mission, consistent across all his public work, is to beautify community spaces while giving voice to marginalized groups and honoring Black excellence. Experience Glass Blowing reflects that ethos — turning a working-class craft into a monumental, dignified portrait that invites passersby to stop, look, and appreciate the artistry in everyday trades.
The mural was commissioned as part of the Hope Corps Downtown Seattle Mural Project, an initiative launched by Seattle’s Office of Arts & Culture in partnership with the Downtown Seattle Association and other neighborhood organizations. Inspired by the New Deal’s Works Progress Administration, Hope Corps was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support under- and unemployed artists while revitalizing downtown Seattle.
