On the side of Bedlam Coffee on Second Avenue between Bell and Blanchard, one of Belltown’s most beloved murals has been drawing visitors and locals alike since 2016. Greetings from Seattle was painted by Greetings Tour — a pair of traveling artists who crisscross America in a 24-foot RV, painting giant postcard-style murals in cities from coast to coast. Seattle was their first stop on their first coast-to-coast crossing, and the neighborhood made an impression.
Local connection mattered from the start: Joe Nix — one of Belltown’s own fixture muralists — helped them secure the wall, and the content of the mural itself was shaped entirely by Seattle locals, who suggested everything that ended up in it.
Every letter of the word SEATTLE carries its own iconic imagery: the Space Needle, Pike Place Market and the Gum Wall, the Mariners and Seahawks, Pioneer Square’s totem pole and the Hammering Man, Gasworks Park, the Pink Elephant Car Wash and Fremont Troll, and Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, and Sir Mix-A-Lot — with Mount Rainier and the Blue Angels filling the background.
Visit Seattle’s Director of Content Strategy described it as a mural whose subjects were so carefully selected that visitors are delighted to find it and locals take pride in recognizing its many parts — drawing foot traffic from Pike Place Market deep into Belltown.
It remains one of the most photographed walls in the city.
